Fire Safety Tips

VFA GrantWe were recently awarded the VFA grant from the Department of Conservation and Recreation. We used the monies aquired to buy 300 ft. of 1/2" high pressure hose to be used on a second hose reel for our brush truck, two high pressure nozzles, and twelve nomex coveralls to be used for brush fires.

Congradulations! The Leyden Fire Department would like to congradulate Carey C. Barton on his appointment as fire chief. We would also like to thank Neal Ainsworth for his many years served as fire chief. We wish you both luck in all your future endeavors.

Truck Commititee We have recently established a truck commititee to look into the feasibilty of the purchase of newer apparatus. New fire equipment is essential to make any fire department successful. With the latest equipment, it would allow for faster responce to emergencies, permit fire personal to perform more efficient in a safe manner, and lower home owners insurance. We currently opperate with: 1978 Mack Pumper, 1976 Ford Pumper, 1972 Ford Tanker, and 1969 Kaiser Jeep Brush truck.

Turnout Gear Our department recently recieved money from the Commonwelth of Mass., to purchase new protective equipment. We were awarded fifteen thousand dollars, which we used to buy 11 sets of turnout gear from Fire-Dex. We were also able to use the funds leftover to purchase a new set of air-chisels, used for auto extrication.
